Our Methodology
How we ensure accurate, verified product information.
Overview
Facts-first product data. We verify every specification against official manufacturer documentation, track source URLs, and label confidence levels (VERIFIED/UNCONFIRMED/AMBIGUOUS). All data undergoes human review. Last verified dates show freshness. Every claim has a citation.
Chuno's core promise is accuracy. Every piece of product information on our platform goes through a rigorous verification process. Here's exactly how we do it.
Product Selection
We prioritize products based on:
- Market relevance: Products actively sold and widely available
- User interest: Products frequently searched for or requested
- Category coverage: Ensuring diversity across price points and brands
- Launch timing: New releases and significant updates
Information Gathering
Primary Sources
We rely exclusively on primary sources for specifications:
- Official manufacturer product pages
- Official technical specification sheets
- Product manuals and documentation
- Official press releases and announcements
What We Don't Use
To maintain accuracy, we explicitly avoid:
- Third-party aggregator sites
- User-submitted specifications
- Unofficial forums or discussions
- Retailer listings (unless manufacturer-verified)
Verification Process
Step 1: Initial Research
We compile all official documentation for a product, including multiple regional variants if specifications differ by market.
Step 2: Cross-Reference
Every specification is verified against at least two official sources. If sources conflict, we investigate further or mark the specification as unconfirmed.
Step 3: Standardization
We convert all measurements and specifications to consistent formats for easy comparison (e.g., battery capacity in mAh, prices in local currency).
Step 4: Source Documentation
We record the verification date and maintain links to source materials for every product.
Step 5: Verification Label
Once verified, we apply a "VERIFIED" label and timestamp to the product, indicating when the information was last confirmed.
Pricing Information
Launch Price
The manufacturer's suggested retail price at product launch, sourced from official announcements. This provides a baseline for value assessment.
Current Average Price
We track average market prices from multiple authorized retailers. This is updated regularly to reflect current market conditions. Pricing methodology:
- Sample prices from 5-10 major authorized retailers
- Exclude extreme outliers (clearance sales, limited promotions)
- Calculate median price as "current average"
- Update monthly or when significant price changes occur
Ongoing Maintenance
Regular Reviews
We review products on the following schedule:
- New products: Reviewed within 1 week of official launch
- Active products: Reviewed quarterly
- Mature products: Reviewed every 6 months
- Discontinued products: Marked as such, archived with final specs
User Corrections
When users report inaccuracies:
- We verify the correction against official sources
- If confirmed, we update within 24 hours
- We acknowledge the correction and update the "last verified" date
- We thank contributors who help us maintain accuracy
Comparison Features
Our comparison tool follows these principles:
- Apples to apples: Only compare products within the same category
- Spec normalization: Ensure all units and measurements are consistent
- Objective highlighting: Numerically superior specs highlighted, not subjective "better"
- Context provision: Show not just specs, but what they mean
What We Don't Do
To maintain objectivity and focus:
- We don't publish subjective reviews or ratings
- We don't editorialize or offer purchasing advice
- We don't prioritize products based on affiliate commissions
- We don't include marketing language or hype
- We don't speculate on unannounced features or products
Quality Metrics
We track our own performance:
- Percentage of products verified within 90 days
- Average time to correct reported inaccuracies
- Number of user-reported corrections
- Price update frequency
These metrics help us continuously improve our processes.
Transparency
Every product page shows:
- Last verification date
- Links to official sources
- Clear indication of any unverified or uncertain information
If we make a mistake, we correct it immediately and transparently.
